Dr Ballouz was invited to give a lecture in Tokyo at the headquarter of the Japanese Geotechnical Society. The one hour lecture was followed by an interactive Q&A session and a celebration dinner.
Dr. Ballouz has just ended his 4 year term, serving as a Board member of the ISSMGE. This was declared at the closing ceremony of the 19th International Conference on Soil Mechanics and Geotechnical Engineering. It was a great opportunity to promote the profession of geotechnical engineering , and visit geo professionals in all five continents at each board meeting and each conference occasion.
Dr Ballouz vowed to keep dedicating a lot of his time in serving the profession within ISSMGE or other bodies.
Dr. Marc Ballouz is giving an online lecture on the 13th of December at 12.00 am, organized by the International Society for Soil Mechanics and Geotechnical Engineering, talking about “Challenges in Shoring Deep Excavations in Urban Areas”. Dr. Marc Ballouz is the author of many journal and other publications promoting Geotechnical engineering such as the ISSMGE video entitled “What is Geotechnical Engineering” that is currently the most viewed youtube video related to geotechnical engineering. In 2013 he received the ISSMGE outstanding Public Relations award. This webinar lecture emanates mainly from Dr. Ballouz’s experience in shoring projects around the world with emphasis on case studies in urban cities. After the completion of the webinar, Dr. Ballouz will be happy to answer any questions, posted on the ISSMGE Q&A platform. The platform will remain active for two days, it is located below the present video and you may access it with your GeoWorld account.

Dr. Marc Ballouz is giving a keynote lecture at the 5th AYGEC (African Young Geotechnical Engineering Conference), which takes place at Ghana between 10th and 12th of August 2016.
From Theory to Practice in Geotechnics
A journey emanating from experience on how to apply advanced theories learned in the classroom to real life projects. After a small introduction on problem solving, two case histories are presented. The first case is design of the SeaBreeze windfarm in Texas. This involved the analysis of the deep foundation system using dynamic simulation and pile group for each wind turbine subjected to wind loads and surge waves. The second case in the implosion of the 20 story old Hilton hotel in Downtown Beirut. The mission was to design the shoring of the existing basement walls using dynamic analyses and peak ground acceleration to withstand the demolition forces, with amazing pictures and surprising results.
Presentation by Dr. Marc Ballouz, during the Geotechnical & Structural Engineering Congress 2016 in Phoenix Arizona. Resources that ISSMGE, the International Society for Soil Mechanics and Geotechnical Engineering, is putting at the disposition of all civil and structural engineers around the Globe.
On September 3 of 2013, during the ISSMGE 18th International Conference in Paris, Dr. Ballouz was presented with the ISSMGE AWARD FOR OUTSTANDING PUBLIC RELATIONS. ISSMGE’s president Dr. Jean-Louis Briaud made the presentation of this prestigious award, acknowledging Dr. Ballouz’s role as chair of the Public Relations Committee, and acknowledging his wonderful personality, his time, efforts and contributions to spreading the word on Geotechnical Engineering across the globe.
Since 2011, I-IGM has had a pronounced presence in all major ISSMGE events. The 2013 International Conference and Exhibit in Paris is no exception. We welcome you to visit the I-IGM exhibit at Booth #89, at the Palais Des Congrès in beautiful Paris. Representing I-IGM this year are France manager Michel Arbadji, USA manager Charles Radi as well I-IGM President and Founder Dr. Marc Ballouz.
